A creative and innovative communications leader with nearly three decades of experience, Ron Watermon was responsible for modernizing the St. Louis Cardinals communications by leading the team’s investment in video storytelling, brand journalism, fan engagement and social media.  


Ron's recognition of the importance of usage and ownership rights in the digital era was forged during his time with the Major League Baseball team.  Ron is credited with ensuring that the team had clear copyright on team photography and was investing in creating their own storytelling content to connect directly with fans through their website, social media and television. 


Among Ron’s accomplishments during his 18 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, he pioneered various innovative fan engagement and creative digital storytelling initiatives that helped contribute to Forbes ranking the Cardinals 3rd among 30 MLB teams in social reach.  


An Emmy nominated writer, Ron’s creative portfolio features the renowned Stand for Stan Social Media Campaign , the first ever Instagram video serial #TheFrontOffice, the Emmy-nominated Instagram serial #BirdToTheFuture, the #CardsRatPack cartoon series honoring Whitey Herzog  and #CompleteGamer , a campaign honoring Bob Gibson that featured the composition of a song telling Gibson’s amazing life story in the vein of Lin Manuel Miranda’s acclaimed broadway hit Hamilton .   


Ron is credited with ensuring the Cardinals were one of MLB’s leaders in brand journalism with the development of a digital video unit responsible for over 500 video news stories annually, as well as the production Cardinals Insider with Ozzie Smith, a weekly magazine television show that airs on 19 stations in eight states.


Ron formed STORYSMART® because he believes everyone should own their own story and share it in a memorable way so that they will always be remembered.
